|Appeal pledges ahead of last year's pace|
Financial pledges to the archdiocesan 2005 Feed My Sheep stewardship appeal are running well ahead of the 2004 pace four weeks after intention Sunday.
Pledges to the archdiocese as of Nov. 14 totaled $1,566,727, more than $400,000 ahead of the pledges reported on the same date last year.
Tim McNeil, stewardship and planning officer with the Archdiocesan Office of Stewardship, Planning and Development, said the early numbers reflect 'exceptionally strong support and effort in many parishes."
With a goal of $2.5 million this year, up $500,000 from last year's appeal, the large increase over last year is especially important, he said.
In addition to the work at the parish level, McNeil attributed the increase to more familiarity with the annual appeal and with an awareness of the needs. The appeal communication efforts also created a sense of importance and urgency, he said.
The archdiocesan financial appeal includes funds for education of children and adults, support for priests and outreach to the needy in Northeast Nebraska.
Now in its sixth year, more than $10 million has been received to help finance archdiocesan programs through the appeal.
Numbers for another part of the appeal "“ spiritual stewardship through pledges of prayer and presence "“ should be available next month, McNeil said.
The appeal also focuses on all aspects of stewardship "“ time, talent and treasure "“ at the parish level.
