Archbishop Curtiss announces appointments

After consultation with the Priests' Personnel Board of the Archdiocese, and in accord with canons 523, 547, 1435 and the Pastor Tenure and Priest Assignment policy of the Archdiocese, Archbishop Elden Francis Curtiss has made the following appointments, effective June 22, 2006, unless otherwise noted:

PASTORS

Rev. Paul M. Albenesius, pastor of St. Charles Parish, North Bend, and St. Leo Parish, Snyder, to pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Jackson, and St. Mary Mission, Hubbard.

Rev. David D. Belt, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Norfolk, is reappointed for an additional six-year term as pastor.

Rev. Harold J. Buse, pastor of St. Leo Parish, Omaha, is reappointed for an additional six-year term as pastor.

Rev. Donald M. Cleary, pastor of St. Peter, Fullerton, and St. Peter, Clarks, to pastor of St. Charles Parish, North Bend, and St. Leo Parish, Snyder.

Rev. Valentine J. Peter, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, Boys Town, has resigned as pastor, effective July 1, 2007. His resignation has been accepted by Archbishop Curtiss, who intends to appoint the Rev. Steven E. Boes, executive director of Girls and Boys Town, to become pastor on that date. This will allow one additional year of transition between Father Peter and Father Boes for the Girls and Boys Town campus parish.

Rev. Alfred J. Salanitro, pastor of St. Francis Borgia Parish, Blair, to pastor of St. Bernadette Parish, Bellevue.

Rev. Richard J. Whiteing, pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Jackson, and St. Mary Mission, Hubbard, to pastor of St. Peter, Fullerton, and St. Peter, Clarks.

Rev. John P. Broheimer, associate pastor of Mary Our Queen Parish, to associate pastor of St. Cecilia's Cathedral.

Rev. Paul C. Hoesing, part-time associate pastor of St. Bernard's Parish, Omaha, and part-time chaplain of Roncalli Catholic High School, Omaha, to associate pastor of St. Patrick Parish, O'Neill, and St. Joseph Mission, Amelia.

Rev. Roger H. Kalscheuer, sacramental duties and in residence at Holy Name Parish, Omaha, to senior associate pastor of St. James Parish, Omaha.

Rev. Jeffrey P. Lorig, assistant pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Norfolk, after a leave of absence for medical reasons, effective May 30, 2006, will be appointed associate pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Omaha, effective Dec. 1, 2006.

Rev. Gerald P. Melchior, medical leave of absence, to senior associate pastor of St. Bernard's Parish, Omaha.

Rev. Walter L. Nolte, associate pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Omaha, to associate pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Norfolk.

Rev. Eric S. Olsen, associate pastor of St. Patrick Parish, O'Neill, and St. Joseph Mission, Amelia, to associate pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Fremont.

Rev. Andrew L. Sohm, assistant pastor of St. Wenceslaus Parish, Omaha, to part-time assistant pastor at St. Stephen the Martyr Parish, Omaha, and chaplain at Skutt Catholic High School, Omaha.

NEWLY-ORDAINED ASSISTANT PASTORS

Rev. Christopher N. Onuhua to part-time assistant pastor of St. Wenceslaus Parish, Omaha, and part-time duties with the Intercessors of the Lamb.

Rev. An Duy Phan to assistant pastor of Mary Our Queen Parish, Omaha.

Rev. Bernard G. Starman to part-time assistant pastor, St. Margaret Mary Parish, Omaha, and part-time chaplain, Roncalli Catholic High School, Omaha.

Rev. Francis D. Valerio to part-time assistant pastor of St. Wenceslaus Parish, Omaha, and part-time duties with the Intercessors of the Lamb.

SPECIAL

Rev. James M. Buckley, senior associate pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Omaha, is given additional duties as a consultant to the Office of Religious Formation.

Rev. Steven D. Emanuel, temporary administrator of St. Bernadette Parish, Bellevue, and chaplain of Gross Catholic High School, Bellevue, is released from his duties as the parish administrator, and will take up residence at Gross Catholic High School, with sacramental duties at St. Columbkille Parish, Papillion.

Rev. R. Michael Fitzpatrick, Promotor of Justice and Defender of the Bond of the Metropolitan Tribunal, is reappointed for an additional term, effective July 10, 2006 through June 30, 2009.

Rev. James E. Gilg, pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Parish, Omaha, and president of Skutt Catholic High School, Omaha, is released from his duties as president of Skutt, and is named Superintendent of Catholic Schools, effective July 1, 2006.

Rev. Matthew J. Gutowski, director of the Office of Religious Formation, is given additional duties as a theological consultant to the Family Life Office, with residence at St. Elizabeth Ann Parish, Omaha.

Rev. Carl F. Sodoro, sabbatical, to chaplain at Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Medical Center, with residence at St. Adalbert Parish, Omaha, effective June 30, 2006.

RELEASED FROM PASTORAL DUTIES

IN THE ARCHDIOCESE

Rev. Mark T. Beran, associate pastor of St. Cecilia Cathedral, Omaha, to active duty and deployment as a chaplain with the Nebraska National Guard, effective May 26, 2006.

Rev. Paschal Jong-A-Kiem, part-time associate pastor of St. James Parish, Omaha, and part-time duties with the Intercessors of the Lamb, to full-time duties with the Intercessors of the Lamb.

Rev. Charles L. Jurgensmeier, SJ, from regular weekend supply at St. Columbkille Parish, Papillion, to full-time duties at Creighton University.

Rev. David W. LaPlante, chaplain, Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Medical Center, and in residence at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Omaha, is granted a three-year permission to serve the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Wisc.
