Archbishop ordains two to priesthood
Standing on the front steps of St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha after their June 2 ordination, Fathers Jim Netusil and Greg Carl joined their brother priests in a hymn to Mary, the mother of God.
After asking Mary's protection and intercession, the new priests gave their first blessings - to Archbishop George J. Lucas, who knelt before them on the cathedral steps.
Only moments before, Archbishop Lucas had laid his hands on their heads and anointed their hands, ordaining them priests.
"Keep before you the example of the true shepherd, the Good Shepherd, who came not to be served, but to serve, who came to seek out and to save the lost," the archbishop told the men in his homily.
Archbishop Lucas also encouraged them to build the household of the faithful through their word and example.
Now, the two men take on their new assignments. Father Netusil will serve as associate pastor of St. Patrick Parish in O'Neill and St. Joseph Parish in Amelia, and Father Carl will study Spanish in Mexico this summer and then serve as associate pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Norfolk.
