John Paul II: Eucharist is source and summit of life and mission of the Church, and at center of our lives as Catholics

Cardinal Avery Dulles, SJ, recently made the point that the Church always renews herself by returning to the source of her own life. The words and actions of Jesus at the Last Supper remain at the heart of the Church's liturgy and life of grace. Vatican Council II, in the 'Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy," proclaimed that 'The Eucharist is the source and summit of the life and mission of the Church."

Archbishop praises permanent deacons for their service

The permanent diaconate is called the ministry of service, and deacons of the Archdiocese of Omaha, their wives and families gathered Sept. 9 to honor service "“ the ordination anniversaries of eight permanent deacons.

Honorees included four marking 25 years "“ Deacons Charles (Skip) Baughman, St. Bernard in Omaha; Ron Horner, St. Stephen the Martyr in Omaha; John Huck, St. Matthew and St. Mary in Bellevue; and Duane Thome, St. Columbkille in Papillion.
