Country to join in prayer for child abuse prevention

April is Child Abuse Prevention month and Catholics across the country are joining together in prayer to "lift up many voices to our Lord for our ministry and all who are affected by abuse," said Mary Beth Hanus, who, as assistance coordinator for the archdiocese, aids in the immediate pastoral care of those who claim to have been sexually abused as minors by clergy or other church personnel.

The prayers will be for the church, the children who have been abused and those who have broken sacred trust by abusing.

Students cover Omaha metro in service

College of Saint Mary (CSM) in Omaha sent out its students, faculty, staff and administration today to participate in volunteer efforts across Omaha as part of Spirit of Service Day.

The annual effort encourages all CSM community members to follow the example of the College's founders, the Sisters of Mercy, to assist those who need help.

"The whole purpose is to get the entire CSM community to serve others," said Katty Petak, assistant dean of students. "Education for the professions and for service is the foundation of who we are."
