Holy Cross School choir to travel to Washington

Holy Cross School's Joseph Choir members will be traveling to Washington, D.C. April 26-29 to participate in the national program "American Sings."

"America Sings" is a choral music festival, which celebrates the contributions that young people make to their community through musical talents.

In Washington, the choir will perform solo and participate in a group finale performance with all the choirs present.

Donation given to Project Rachael

A check for $3,763 was presented to Archbishop Elden Francis Curtiss and Greg Schleppenbach, state director of the Bishops' Pastoral Plan for Pro-life Activities, March 16 by representatives from 13 high schools.

Students raised funds for Project Rachael by conducting penny wars, dress down days, bake sales and school Mass collections.

Adopted child gives back to agency

Lynn Cooper was adopted as a child through Catholic Charities Omaha.

Cooper, an internationally known performing artist of Christian music, gave back to Catholic Charities Children's Services program April 14 by performing a benefit concert at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart.

This was the fourth concert Cooper has performed for Catholic Charities.

Sister Haley honored for volunteer work

Sister Mary Alice Haley, OSM, was named winner of the United Way of the Midlands 2007 Outstanding Volunteer Award April 18 at the annual recognition luncheon.

She was honored for her work as a volunteer Spanish medical interpreter in the neonatal intensive care unit at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.

"My hope is to reach out to those less fortunate," Sister Haley said about her volunteer work. "Also, I feel the importance of a ministry of welcoming those new to our country."

Pfeifer Agency is sales leader

Nebraska Knights of Columbus Insurance Agency - the Pfeifer Agency - topped the 133 agencies in the United States and Canada in long-term insurance sales for 2006.

Last year was the fifth in a row the agency was the sales leader in that category.

Kevin Pfeifer, general agent, received the honor on behalf of the 24 agents who serve Knights of Columbus families in Nebraska.

The Pfeifer Agency also finished the 2006 year ranked ninth nationally for life insurance sales.

Summer programs for youth scheduled

The Christ Child Society of Omaha is planning a nine-week summer program June 4 through Aug. 3, at both the main and north Christ Child Centers.

The camp - for first through sixth grade students - will feature swimming, sports, 4-H, field trips, movies and video games.

The camp runs each day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours available for a fee.
