Driving for Excellence Fundraiser for Mercy High School July 23

Driving for Excellence a fundraiser for Mercy High School tuition assistance program, will be Monday, July 23, at Tiburon Golf Course, 10302 S. 168th St., Omaha. Check-in 11 a.m., shotgun start, Texas scramble 12 p.m. Individual $125 and foursome $500 donation includes green fees, carts, drinks on the course, lunch, golf goodies and prizes. At 75, Archbishop Curtiss submits resignation

Upon celebrating his 75th birthday June 16, Archbishop Elden Francis Curtiss submitted his resignation to Pope Benedict XVI. Church law states all bishops must do so at the age of 75.

Until the pope names a successor, Archbishop Curtiss will remain head of the Archdiocese of Omaha.

He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Baker, Ore., in 1958. He holds a master of divinity degree and a master of arts in education administration.
