The 13th year of the Institute for Priestly Formation (IPF) is in full swing at Creighton University in Omaha.
This year's enrollment for the 10-week program is the largest on record, with 136 seminarians from 51 different dioceses and two priests from Thailand.
FREMONT - St. Peter Claver Cristo Rey Catholic High School in Omaha is not the only school opening this fall in the Archdiocese of Omaha.
The archdiocese also is welcoming its 64th elementary school - Archbishop Bergan Catholic Elementary School in Fremont.
Set to open its doors Aug. 15, the school will start with kindergarten and first grade classes. Plans call for adding a new grade each year for the next four years.
COLUMBUS - Loretta and Norbert Ciecior gave up their dream house for their dream church.
Forty-seven years ago, they bought a house next door to the future home of St. Isidore Church in Columbus where they are founding members.
Then in 2004, the Ciecior's sold their dream house so the new St. Isidore Church could be built.
"We don't really think about what we did as a sacrifice," said Norbert. "But that is what everyone says. We just did what we felt was best for the parish."
Bishop Anthony Milone, former auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Omaha, has returned and will spend his retirement here. He is in residence at St. Bernadette Parish in Bellevue, where he served as pastor from 1973 to 1988.
A native of Omaha, the bishop resigned last July as bishop of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings in Montana due to health reasons.
Fighting a battle against cancer, he is recuperating from quadruple heart bypass surgery.
VATICAN CITY - In a long-awaited overture to disaffected Catholic traditionalists, Pope Benedict XVI relaxed restrictions on the use of the Tridentine Mass, the Latin-language liturgy that predates the Second Vatican Council.
The pope said Mass celebrated according to the 1962 Roman Missal, commonly known as the Tridentine rite, should be made available in every parish where groups of the faithful desire it.
