Father Golik dies at age 93

Father Stanislaus Golik, who celebrated his 70th anniversary as a priest this past summer, died Sept. 7 at the age of 93.

His funeral was held Sept. 12 at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Omaha, where he served after coming to Omaha in the late 1940s. He was buried later that day at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

Born Nov. 13, 1915, in Mrkopalj, Croatia, Father Golik entered the seminary after high school. He attended the diocesan seminary in Senj, Croatia, from 1935 to 1939 and was ordained a priest in June 1939.

Archbishop George J. Lucas told the record number of more than 500 at the Vigil for Life Sept. 5 in Bellevue that it is a "Catholic duty to step out of our comfort zone and be witnesses to the gospel of life."

The annual vigil began with Mass at St. Mary Church in Bellevue, and included a procession to the abortion clinic on Mission Avenue.
