Marian artists receive contest awards

Self-portrait artwork earned 12 Omaha Marian high school students medals Feb. 27 from the Nebraska Visuals Arts Contest.

Senior Maggie Hinrichs and juniors Alexandria Frost and Martha Latka received gold medals for their work. Silver medals went to Aubrey Brouillette, senior, and Allison Dethlefs, Maddie LaHood and Chloe Wilwerding, juniors; while Autumn Baldwin and Claire Townley, both seniors, and Kayla Kampschneider, Morgan Lofgren and Kealinn Peterson, juniors, received bronze medals.

Food Fast event held in Lynch

Young adults from eight Archdiocese of Omaha communities took part in the 2010 Food Fast weekend Feb. 20-21 at the Niobrara Valley House of Renewal in Lynch.

Archdiocesan communities represented included Bristow, Lynch, Butte, Osmond, Creighton, Verdigre, Osmond and Spencer. Young adults from Fairfax and Sioux Falls, S.D., also attended the event designed to show how people can help alleviate poverty.

In addition to fasting 24 hours, participants took part in learning activities, simulation activities, ice-breakers, prayers, films, journaling and discussions.

Students chosen in essay contest

Archbishop George J. They were the top finalists chosen out of 100 SVDP eighth-graders who participated in the vocation essay contest commemorating vocations week, Jan. 10-16. Finalists were chosen by the St. Vincent de Paul Vocations Committee.
