Archbishop to serve and dine with homeless

Archbishop George J. Lucas will serve and dine with homeless men, women and children at the Stephen Center on Thanksgiving.

The archbishop will arrive at about noon at the south Omaha shelter and tour the facility. Archbishop Lucas will help serve dinner to shelter residents before sharing a meal with them at 1 p.m. Nov. 25.

"The Stephen Center family is honored and blessed to have Archbishop Lucas as a Thanksgiving Day guest," said Del Bomberger, CEO of the Stephen Center.

College of St. Mary collects more than 4,800 pounds of food for Food Bank of the Heartland

Students and faculty at the College of St. Mary in Omaha collected more than 4,800 pounds of food for the Food Bank of the Heartland in a recent canned and boxed goods drive that included competitions for most food collected and most creative "canned castle."

Students collected the most food at more than 2,900 pounds. The staff collected more than 900 pounds and faculty members collected more than 700 pounds of food, said Carmen Steele, a spokeswoman for the college.
