Archdiocese of Omaha settles sexual abuse lawsuit

The Archdiocese of Omaha is sharing in the settlement of a lawsuit involving allegations of sexual abuse by Father John Fiala, a former priest of the archdiocese facing sexual assault charges in Texas, officials said.

The settlement amount shared by the archdiocese and the Diocese of Corpus Christi was undisclosed at the plaintiff's request, but it will be paid by insurance, said Deacon Tim McNeil, chancellor of the archdiocese.

Gross Catholic students part of popular ABC show

On Sunday evening, members of the sophomore class at Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School in Bellevue were featured on ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as one of several classes across the country making a pledge to not text while driving. Their pledge was part of the Jan. 30 episode featuring a Texas family whose daughter, Alex Brown, was killed as a result of texting while driving.
