St. Peter Claver Cristo Rey High School closing

St. Peter Claver Cristo Rey High School in Omaha, which offered an innovative work-study mix to help students pay tuition, will close at the end of June because of a $7 million debt, large operating deficits, a soft economy and an ongoing need for outside financial support, according to an announcement made by the Archdiocese of Omaha.

Parents, faculty, staff and the school's 196 students were told Friday that despite intensive efforts of school officials and Omaha's business community, the school is no longer financially viable.
