More than 700 people attended the annual Irish Fest for Catholic Charities, raising $425,000 to benefit the Omaha organization.
The evening's special guest was Archbishop George J. Lucas.
This year's theme, "Living the Legacy," celebrated both the 85th anniversary of Catholic Charities serving the Omaha area and the 20th anniversary of the Irish Fest.
High school religious formation students at St. Joseph Parish in Ponca prepared and served a "Top O' the Morning Omelet in a Bag Breakfast" March 6 as part of the student's community and confirmation service project.
Greg McDermott, head men's basketball coach at Creighton University in Omaha, is the featured speaker for the eighth annual C.H.A.N.C.E. luncheon, scheduled for April 12 at the Harper Center on the Creighton University campus.
McDermott also is honorary chairman for the 11:30 a.m. event.
The Pfeifer Agency, the Knights of Columbus Insurance agency for Knights in the Archdiocese of Omaha, was recently honored as the top Knights agency in the United States for 2010, and was No. 2 in North America.
General Agent Kevin Pfeifer received the awards on behalf of the agency and 16 field agents.
For its work creating an "Environmental Lab" that includes gardens and an arboretum, St. Mary School in Bellevue received the Wildlife Habitat Award from the National Wildlife Federation.
The award was presented at a March 24 ceremony sponsored by Green Bellevue. The St. Mary project features nine types of trees and more than 30 types of plants.
Eighty students from Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha will greet former president of Ireland and former United Nations high commissioner for human rights, Mary Robinson, as she arrives on stage for the 18th annual ICAN Women's Leadership Conference April 7 at the Qwest Center in Omaha.
