One of first deacons in archdiocese dies in Omaha

Deacon Joseph Archibald, a member of the first class of permanent deacons for the Archdiocese of Omaha who died March 26 at age 89, will be remembered for his humility and generous service, a fellow deacon said.

He was like the servant in the Gospel of Matthew put in charge of a landowner's possessions, said Deacon Dave Gurney, who was ordained in 1973 with Deacon Archibald and served alongside him for more than 30 years at St. Cecilia Parish in Omaha.
