Archdiocese joins U.S. bishops' call for reform of federal health care law

The Archdiocese of Omaha joined U.S. bishops' call for reforming the federal health care law to better ensure life-affirming care after the U.S. Supreme Court largely upheld the measure June 28.

The high court upheld a central tenant of the law, saying penalizing people who ignore a mandate to carry health insurance is constitutional as a tax.

Deacon Tim McNeil, chancellor, issued a statement saying the church has been a consistent advocate for ensuring access to life-affirming health care for all, especially the poorest and most vulnerable.
