Leader named for new Omaha Catholic Schools Consortium

Msgr. James Gilg has been named executive director for a new organization designed to oversee centralized governance of five Catholic elementary schools in southeast Omaha.

Msgr. Gilg, superintendent since 2006 of the archdiocese's 17 high schools and 56 elementary schools, takes his new post immediately as leader of the Omaha Catholic Schools Consortium, archdiocesan officials said Aug. 29.

He will continue as superintendent this school year, and hire an assistant director for the consortium as it prepares to begin operations next fall.

More than 150 people attend bioethics conference

More than 150 people, including nurses, doctors, clergy and religious sisters, prayed, listened to speakers address Catholic teaching on health care and shared contact information at the Archdiocese of Omaha Bioethics Conference in Omaha Aug. 24-25.

"It puts everybody on the same sheet of music, to start with," said Dr. Lloyd Pierre Jr., who practices family medicine and is a founder of the Catholic-based clinic Sancta Familia Medical Apostolate in Omaha. "People can apply church teaching to their situations, and know who to look for when seeking an answer."
