Priest remembered for faith, generosity

Father Rafael B. Librea left the dangers of his native Philippines for the Archdiocese of Omaha, where he prayerfully and generously served for more than 30 years, said retired Father Charles Swanson, who delivered the homily for Father Librea's Dec. 7 funeral at Holy Cross Church in Omaha.

The 88-year-old priest died of natural causes Dec. 4 at Holy Cross' rectory.

Archbishop George J. Lucas was the celebrant for the funeral; Father Librea was buried at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha.

Christmas reminds us to be open To the redeemer everyone needs

Just about a week ago I visited Madonna School in Omaha. Madonna is a Catholic school and workshop that for more than 50 years has been serving children and young adults who face cognitive and developmental challenges. I celebrated Mass with many of the students. My miter and crozier were clues that I was an unusual guest. The participation in the liturgy was beautiful, including many spoken petitions that I am sure echoed in heaven before they passed the students' lips.
