St. Mary School fifth-grader Preston Ames escorts Army and Air Force veteran Mary Bezy Nov. 14 at a Veterans Day assembly at the Bellevue school. Behind Bezy is Army veteran Donald Beeghly. Both are members of St. Mary Parish and veterans of World War II, Bezy as a nurse and Beeghly among the troops landing on Omaha Beach in 1944 and later fighting in the Battle of the Bulge.

More Treats for troops

      Girls Scout Troop No. 43706 and several other student volunteers at St. James/Seton School in Omaha recently filled 210 gift bags with candy and attached thank-you cards for military veterans.

      The gift bags will be delivered during Thanksgiving week to the Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center, VA nursing home and several senior citizen centers in the Omaha area.
