Sister Mary Thomas Kosiut, a native of Omaha and member of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, died March 10 in St. Louis. She was 85.
Her funeral Mass was March 17 at the Cardinal Carberry Senior Living Center, with interment March 18 at Resurrection Cemetery, both in St. Louis.
Catholic educators are called to be missionary disciples and evangelizers who share their own experiences of the faith even as they explain church teaching, a nationally known author and educator said at a March 14 gathering of religious education and youth ministry leaders, pastors and archdiocese staff in Omaha.

Born March 2, 1904, Geisel wrote popular children’s stories including “The Cat in the Hat,” “Horton Hears a Who!” and “Green Eggs and Ham.” He died Sept. 24, 1991.

Servant of Mary Sister Marianna De Simone, a native of Italy whose 56 years of religious life included service as a teacher and counselor at schools in the archdiocese, died March 10 in Omaha. She was 81.
Her funeral Mass was March 15 in Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel at the Servants of Mary motherhouse in Omaha, with interment in the convent cemetery.
