Help is needed to feed the hungry

The shelves empty quickly at Catholic Charities' St. Martin de Porres Center's food pantry, and help is needed as winter and the holiday season approach.

"We need supplies like crazy," said Carrie Walter, program director.

Elementary school honors Cardinal Cupich

Red was the color of the day at Ss. Peter and Paul School in Omaha, but it had nothing to do with Husker football.

Dressed in a variety of red garb including shirts, tennis shoes and ribbons, students and staff at Ss. Peter and Paul School in Omaha honored now-Cardinal Blase Cupich, who attended the school, the day before he was elevated to cardinal in Rome.

Schools, retirement centers, others honor nation’s veterans

Students in schools, residents of retirement centers and others across the Archdiocese of Omaha honored the nation’s veterans during Veterans Day Nov. 11.

At St. Mary School in Bellevue, four veterans of World War II were among 60 veterans honored in that school’s celebration, including 95-year-old St. Mary parishioner Mary Bezy, who served as a nurse in the Army.
