Preparing for the legislative session

The 2018 legislative session began Jan. 3. It marks the commencement of the second session of the 105th Nebraska Legislature. As you recall, a Nebraska Legislature convenes over a two-year period (biennium). The first session of the 105th Nebraska Legislature occurred this last spring over a 90-day period. This second session will occur over a 60-day period and end around mid-April.

School raises $2,300 for shelter

A walk for the homeless, a bake sale and a coin-donation competition among classrooms helped Our Lady of Lourdes middle school students collect $2,300 for the Stephen Center shelter, both in Omaha.
Students presented a check to the homeless shelter and addiction recovery center Nov. 21.

Small change brings big impact

Students at St. Vincent de Paul School in Omaha saw small donations accumulate into a big impact last fall as they contributed to loose-change jars in their homerooms.
Collected from September through November, pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters added up to about $3,500, which was earmarked to support the construction of a new parish center.
