State budget helps ensure federal funds don’t support abortion

The state budget now helps ensure that no federal funds support abortions in Nebraska.
“The Nebraska Legislature made the right decision today to pass the state budget bill with the common sense, pro-life Title X provision intact,” said Tom Venzor, executive director of the Nebraska Catholic Conference (NCC).

JPII Newman Center fosters conversions

Different backgrounds – different stories – but the same call to the fullness of the Catholic faith.
Five students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) joined the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil March 31 – the culmination of a journey nurtured by the St. John Paul II Newman Center in Omaha.

A middle-of-the-night phone call – then another – alerted Gabriel Jabbour to the threat.
Reluctantly, he packed a few belongings and $3,000 in cash, and fled from Syria with his wife to avoid being publicly executed by Islamic militants.

National Healthcare Decisions Day

Jesuit priest taught 46 years at Creighton University

Jesuit Father Richard Hauser, who taught 46 years at Creighton University in Omaha and led retreats on spirituality and prayer at St. Benedict Center in Schuyler and other sites, died April 3. He was 80. Visitation was scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 8 at St. John Church on the university’s campus. The funeral Mass was set for 10 a.m. April 9 at the church.
