Court upholds travel ban

WASHINGTON – In a 5-4 decision June 26, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld President Donald Trump’s travel ban on people entering the United States from some Muslim-majority countries, saying the president’s action was within his power.
The court reversed a series of lower court decisions that had struck down the ban as illegal or unconstitutional.

Supreme Court rules for pregnancy centers, cake maker

WASHINGTON – In a ruling hailed as a victory for free speech rights of pro-life organizations, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 June 26 that a California law requiring crisis pregnancy centers to post where low-cost abortion services are available violates the U.S. Constitution.

Archdiocese in step with charter

The Archdiocese of Omaha reported separate sexual abuse allegations in fiscal year 2016-17 involving two priests that dated back 24 years in one instance and nearly 60 years in another, according to the archdiocese’s annual audit report.
One complaint was unsubstantiated and the other allegedly occurred in another diocese.
