Survived by husband, Rodney Smyser; children and spouses, Jon Smyser, Phillip and Charla Smyser, and Sarah and Kevin Richter; five grandchildren.

HOLEWINSKI, Joseph C., 76. Funeral Mass Dec. 10 at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Survived by wife, Pam; sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Amanda, and Michael and Katie; three granddaughters. Memorials to Diamond Blackfan Anemia Foundation.

Sharon Doran, a member of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Omaha and director of Seeking Truth, a Bible study apostolate, lights her family’s Advent candle Dec. 2 with husband, Steve, and their son John.

Father Tobias Letak, associate pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Omaha, passes on the flame of a candle to women attending “Advent by Candlelight,” an evening of reflection, music and fellowship at the church Dec. 2. Sharon Doran, parishioner and director of Seeking Truth, a Bible study apostolate, was the featured speaker.

Advent an opportunity to fill darkness with Jesus

A light to shine in our darkness: Jesus, the long anticipated Messiah.

During Advent, Jesus can illuminate our own personal darkness if we allow him, said Jesuit Father Andy Alexander, director of collaborative ministry at Creighton University in Omaha.
