More than 150 Omaha couples were honored Sept. 10 at the annual marriage celebration at St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha.
Archbishop Elden Francis Curtiss presided at the 2 p.m. Mass before a near-capacity crowd and called it a 'special celebration in the life of the church."
The event honors couples who have reached marriage milestones, starting at 25 years.
Among those celebrating were Angelo and Linda Micheletto of Holy Cross Parish, who have been married for 69 years.
And they both had some ideas about the secret to happiness in a marriage.
'You must be patient and don't holler too much," said Angelo Micheletto.
'It is important to work together and help each other out, too," Linda Micheletto added.
Archbishop Curtiss spoke to the couples about the power of love before leading them in a vow renewal ceremony.
'I hope today that your hearts are full of gratitude for God and for the gift of a spouse who loves you with all your warts and blemishes," said Archbishop Curtiss.
At the celebration, 27 couples were recognized for 60 or more years of marriage. Ten couples were married 55 years, 51 couples marked 50 years, 32 couples celebrated 40 years and 37 couples were honored for 25 years of marriage.
A similar celebration is planned for 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at St. Mary Church in Norfolk for rural archdiocesan couples.
