Financial investigation of agency under way
Sister Barbara Markey, ND, is no longer director of the archdiocese's Family Life Office.
After discovering financial irregularities, the archdiocese launched a financial investigation of the Family Life Office, which was founded 28 years ago by Sister Markey.
'As of Jan. 10, Sister Markey no longer works for the archdiocese," Father Gregory Baxter, moderator of the curia, told The Catholic Voice. 'I'm serving as interim director of the Family Life Office until a replacement is found."
As acting director, Father Baxter said, 'The work of the Family Life Office and FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding and Study) will continue. The archdiocese remains committed to providing quality family ministry to our parishes."
FOCCUS, which is used in dioceses across the country, is a program designed to help couples learn more about their relationship. The program belongs to a nonprofit corporation of the archdiocese.
Father Gregory Baxter, in addition to his current duties as Maderator of the Curia, is named interim director of the Family Life Office, as of Jan. 10, 2006, replacing Sister Barbara Markey, ND.
