About 5,000 help vocations
Support priests, vocations and enjoy some softball.
That was the goal, and people came – about 5,000 people – to see Archdiocese of Omaha priests vs. priests from the Diocese of Lincoln in an all-in-fun softball game June 19 called the I-80 Collar Series.
Co-sponsored and coordinated by Spirit Catholic Radio, the event at Werner Park near Papillion raised about $40,000, which will be split between the vocations offices in each diocese.
Held on Father’s Day, the event also was a "great opportunity to honor our spiritual fathers … a day not only for the family to get together but for the family to affirm vocations," said Jim Carroll, executive director of Spirit Catholic Radio.
And the score? In the series’ second year, the Lincoln diocese won again, 22-15.
