Balloon rosary travels 207 miles
Messages held by a rosary of helium-filled balloons and released from Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School in Elgin found a home more than 200 miles away.
Released Oct. 21 as part of celebrations for the high school’s 50th anniversary, the rosary held messages from students and staff, Bible verses and the school’s contact information. It lost altitude as balloons deflated and caught on a woman’s fence in Hamburg, Iowa.
The woman’s daughter called the school, saying her mother was touched by the rosary’s messages.
"Here at the school, everyone who heard about it thought this was great, and all the kids were really excited that someone found it so far away," said Anna Meis, advancement director.
