Catholic Women’s group awards $500 scholarship

Claire Fanta, a member of St. Ludger Parish and senior at Creighton Community High School, both in Creighton, recently won a $500 college scholarship from the Omaha Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (OACCW).

Fanta’s selection among seven applicants was based on academics, extracurricular and volunteer activities, a recommendation from a priest and an essay illustrating how faith guides her life and goals.

She also earned a $250 scholarship from the rural northwest deanery.

OACCW annually awards a scholarship to a female high school senior who plans to attend college. Fanta plans to attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.

"All of the applicants were very qualified and we are so proud of our young people who are so engaged in our Catholic faith," said Theresa Pavlik, OACCW president.
