Creativity leads to teacher award
Encouraging fitness through disc golf, drumming, Pokemon Go and other creative avenues – in addition to traditional games such as field hockey, flag football and soccer – helped St. Margaret Mary teacher Sheri Cohen Vollmer win Nebraska Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year.
"Sheri is one of the most gifted teachers I have seen within the state," said Wyatt Morse, past president of the Nebraska chapter of Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE), which awards the honor. "She has so much creativity for getting students engaged in learning, which is such an important skill at the middle school level."
Vollmer received her award Nov. 7 at the SHAPE Nebraska Fall Conference in Kearney.
