Lindsay students ‘pay it forward’
Students at Lindsay Holy Family School in Lindsay met an Advent challenge to "pay it forward" through acts of kindness.
Each of the school’s four classes – first grade, second grade, third/fourth grade and fifth/sixth grade – was given $25 in seed money to help others.
Through extra jobs at home, their own donations, and even a bake sale, students raised from $100 to $400 per classroom, which they used to buy Christmas gifts for needy families and residents of a shelter for abused women and children, and to donate to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. They also made Christmas cards for local elderly and wrote letters to soldiers overseas.
"The kids benefited a lot from the project," said Carol Korth, first-grade teacher. "Besides faith lessons, they learned a lot about economics, math and working together collaboratively."
