Marian High teacher wins award

Based on the number of students in the final round of judging, Marian High School English teacher Megan Piernicky recently won the Teacher Award in the Omaha-based Institute for Holocaust Education’s Tribute to the Rescuers Essay Contest.

Sixteen Marian students in Piernicky’s honors/advanced placement English course were semifinalists and senior Maia Delkamiller was a finalist in the essay contest – more students in the final round of judging than from any other teacher.

At the April 25 awards ceremony, the institute’s executive director, Liz Feldstern, said the organization recognizes teachers because they know instructors make the decision to include such difficult topics in their curriculum.
