Mount Michael student honored

Senior Dash Wedergren of Mount Michael Benedictine School near Elkhorn is among 10 students around the country being honored for their service, determination and ideals by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA).

The 2018 Youth Virtues, Valor and Vision Award was presented to Wedergren Feb. 26 at the school. Activities Wedergren has been involved with include a Gallup internship, mock trial, information technology club, Boy Scouts, the golf team and student council.

Begun independent of the award but offered to the NCEA as one example of his initiative, Wedergren’s project consisted of strengthening the connection between students and the Benedictine monks who serve the school and live on campus. That project, he explained, includes a group of students each week joining the monks in night prayer, touring the monastery and visiting over ice cream in the monastery kitchen.

“Dash is a true leader by both his words and actions,” said David Peters, head of school.
