Norfolk cheerleaders earn opportunities

New Year’s Day will be especially exciting for members of Norfolk Catholic Junior/Senior High School’s cheerleading squad.

Senior Charli Schlomer and her sister Reilly, a sophomore, will join more than 800 high school cheerleaders from across the United States to perform in London’s New Year’s Day Parade. Selections were based on athletic and leadership skills displayed during the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s (UCA) summer camp.

Other members of the school’s cheerleading team will be in Orlando, Fla., to perform before the football game at the Jan. 1 Citrus Bowl. They are captains Emma Fanta, a junior, and Ryli Mitchell, a sophomore, plus freshmen Hailey Blank, Victoria Clinch and Nicki Otero. They were selected for the honor as trophy winners at the UCA summer camp.

The events are sponsored by Varsity Spirit, a national organization providing camps, competitions and other cheerleading events, and a source of uniforms, other clothes and accessories.
