Polish Heritage Society awards scholarships

The Polish Heritage Society of Nebraska presented four $1,000 scholarships to the winners of its annual essay competition in a May 5 ceremony during the Polish Constitution Day celebration at the Polish Home in Omaha.

Omaha scholarship recipients were Maximilian Kalkowski, a student at St. Stephen the Martyr School planning to attend Creighton Preparatory School; John Davis, a student at Mary Our Queen School planning to attend Mount Michael Benedictine School; Mary Margaret Reisbig, a student at St. Wenceslaus School with plans to attend V.J. and Angela Skutt Catholic High School; and Andrew Podkovich, a student at St. Bernadette Consortium School and a member of St. Stanislaus Parish planning to attend Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School in Bellevue.

Applicants, eighth grade students planning to attend a Catholic high school in the fall, wrote essays about a Polish Catholic ancestor’s effect on their lives as American Catholic youth.
