Skutt Catholic choir in festival

Twenty-eight members of the concert choir for V.J. and Angela Skutt Catholic High School in Omaha participated with nine other choirs from across the country in the National Memorial Day Choral Festival in Washington, D.C.

Performing for veterans and their families at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the students were accompanied by the Air Force Symphony and the Air Force Singing Sergeants.

The singers also were part of the opening ceremonies of the National Memorial Day Parade, singing "America the Beautiful" with Anthony Kearns of the Irish Tenors. And they toured New York City and Washington, including the White House, various memorials and Arlington Cemetery.

Skutt Catholic’s choir applied, sent a recording of performances and was accepted for the week-long trip by the festival choir conductor and the touring company, Music Celebrations International, said Chris Storm, director of choral activities and piano. Many people helped the students make the trip through fundraising and other efforts, he said.
