Team ties for first in ‘Imagination’ contest

Researching, planning and cleaning up a city park were key elements for sixth-graders at St. Pius X/St. Leo School in Omaha who tied for first in their division in the creative problem-solving "Destination Imagination Global Finals" in Knoxville, Tenn.

The students gathered 40 bags of trash and cleaned up more than 15 graffiti sites at Christie Heights Park in Omaha. And they spent hours practicing their presentation for the Global Finals May 25-28, which featured 75 teams in their division.

Tying for first with a team from Pennyslvania were Isabelle Borer, Elleiana Green, Vincent Grenier, Alice Long, Parker Mooney, Ethan Noon and Ethan Streeter.

Sponsored by New Jersey-based nonprofit Destination, the competition featured more than 1,400 teams from 21 countries, including Brazil, China, Romania and Saudi Arabia.
