Youth Frontiers names Character Award winner

Youth Frontiers, a Midwest organization for character education, has named senior Selena Thompson of V.J. and Angela Skutt Catholic High School as its 2019 Character Award winner and scholarship recipient. Along with the award, Thompson received a $2,500 college scholarship for her exceptional leadership skills.

Thompson was nominated by her school’s guidance director, Kristen Reeves, because of the role she plays in recruitment activities.  She serves as a student ambassador, assists with area Youth Frontiers retreats and reaches out to her fellow students to make them feel welcome.

“She meets people where they are and loves them because she believes that all people, no matter what mistakes they have made or what their beliefs are, deserve love, respect and kindness,” said Reeves. “I cannot think of another student who demonstrates respect for her school, respect for herself and standing up for respect more than Selena.”

Thompson received the award Jan. 31 at Youth Frontiers’ annual fundraiser at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha.
