Madonna School to partner with archdiocesan schools

The Archdiocese of Omaha Catholic Schools and Madonna School & Community Based Services in Omaha, in partnership with St. Robert Bellarmine School and St. Pius X/St. Leo School, both in Omaha, are launching a new program, the Madonna Community of Inclusive Education and Services, beginning next August. 

“The goal of inclusion is to maximize opportunities for all students to participate in the classroom,” said Jon Burt, president of Madonna School. The school will serve students at St. Robert Bellarmine with mild-to-moderate intellectual and developmental disabilities in grades PK-8. It will also partner with St. Pius X/St. Leo to serve grades PK-1, with plans to expand the effort in the coming years.  

Inclusion is an evidence-based practice, supported by special education research as being beneficial for individuals with disabilities as well as their peers.

“Joining the Madonna Community of Inclusive Education & Services is a natural step for our school,” said Father Steven Stillmunks, pastor of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish. “Our community is dedicated to meeting the needs of every student we serve, and we are excited to expand our tremendous education program.”
