Polish heritage group names essay winners

Two eighth-graders from Omaha were recently named the Pope John Paul II scholars for 2010 by the Polish Heritage Society of Nebraska.

Receiving $200 for their winning essays were Marissa Podkovich, a graduate of St. Stanislaus School who plans to attend Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School in Bellevue; and Marissa Daskiewicza, a Mother of Divine Grace Home School graduate who plans to continue home schooling this fall.

Eighth-graders throughout the archdiocese were asked to submit an essay about a Polish family member who has influenced their life as a young Polish-American Catholic.
