Moving is a major life stressor for any person at any point in life, but can be especially stressful for seniors as they say goodbye to their long-time family home to downsize or move to senior housing facilities.
But Dr. Deb Mostek, assistant professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center geriatric section, said a proactive approach helps minimize this stress and makes a smooth transition.
Parents of smaller children aren't the only people facing decisions about daycare.
Children of senior-age parents also turn to daycare - adult daycare - to help them provide for their parents.
"The prospects of being a full-time caregiver are challenging," said Paul Maginn, director of Franciscan Centre of Omaha, formerly known as Franciscan Adult Day Center.
It's been years since Dan Van Ann and Connie Bonk were in grade school, but both have willingly returned.
This time, though, as volunteers.
Van Ann, 62, mans the welcome desk at St. Patrick School in Elkhorn and Bonk, 69, works with kindergarten through third-grade students who need a little help at St. Anthony School in Columbus.
