Poor Clares to honor foundress with celebration
By CATHOLIC VOICE

The Poor Clare Sisters of Omaha may be looking to the future with the construction of a new monastery but next month they will honor their past during the celebration of the Feast Day of St. Clare, the foundress of the Order of St. Clare.

The Aug. 11 event, titled "Celebrating a Heritage: An Evening in Tuscany," will include a social hour, silent auction and dinner plus a raffle at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish's Mainelli Center, 11802 Pacific St. in Omaha.

"Our celebration this year ... is special because it is part of our preparation for the 800th Anniversary, or eighth centenary, of the foundation of the Order of St. Clare, which will be in 2012," said Poor Clare Sister Theresina Santiago.

Honorary host for the Aug. 11 event is Abbot Theodore Wolff of the Benedictines of Mount Michael Abbey near Elkhorn. General chairpersons for this year are John and Connie Kinnear.

Tickets are $100 per person or $800 for a table of eight. Patron sponsor tickets are $150 per person and corporate tables of eight are $1,200 per table.

The event also will include a drawing. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25. The grand prize winner will receive a red Smart Car.

Tickets for the drawing are available at the Monastery of St. Clare, 3626 N. 65th Ave, or at Wheatfields, 1224 South 103rd Street in Omaha.

Sister Theresina said funds raised will help to continue work on the interior facilities of the order's Portiuncula. Funds also will go towards the celebration of the 8th centenary in 2012, which Sister Theresina said, the Poor Clare Sisters hope will be at the new Portiuncula.

The Poor Clare Sisters hope those who attend get a better understanding of the history and the Italian heritage of the Poor Clare Sisters.

"We also hope that those at the celebration will see how many generous hearts made this celebration possible," Sister Theresina said. "There is so much we can do for God and God's people when we can be united in mind and heart to give of our time, talent and treasure."
