Music program names honor band

Thirty-nine students from more than a dozen Omaha-area Catholic schools make up this year's Honor Band in the archdiocese's Music in Catholic Schools program.

More than 50 students tried out for the band Sept. 23-24 and Sept. 26 at the Catholic Schools Offices in Omaha, said Debra Lund, administrator of the program.

Serving nearly 300 students in 26 Catholic and five Lutheran schools, Music in Catholic Schools is now in its 35th year. The program provides a complete band curriculum and concerts.

The Honor Band will perform Nov. 18 at New Cassel Retirement Center in Omaha, Dec. 2 at various schools during student assemblies and Dec. 4 at Roncalli Catholic High School in Omaha.
