Archbishop blesses St. Cecilia choir before its pilgrimage to Rome

It was a special day, anticipating a special journey for the St. Cecilia Choir.

Archbishop George J. Lucas blessed choir members during a Nov. 6 Mass at St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha as they prepare for a pilgrimage to Rome to participate in the Nov. 20 closing Mass of the Year of Mercy with Pope Francis.

The choir will join several other diocesan choirs from the United States and the Sistine Chapel Choir to form a 300-voice ensemble.

In his homily, the archbishop said the closing liturgy of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy will be even more beautiful with the choir’s participation.

“We are very proud of them for their dedication throughout the liturgical year, and for not only making beautiful music, but for helping draw us into the worship of almighty God,” the archbishop said.
