Archbishop Lucas: Apostolic exhortation is a ‘gift to the church’

Calling it a ‘gift to the church,’ Archbishop George J. Lucas April 8 invited Catholics and others to reflect on Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation on the family:

"The Holy Father’s apostolic exhortation ‘The Joy of Love’ is his gift to the Church during this Jubilee of Mercy. It also highlights the gift of the Church’s understanding of marriage and family life for the world.

"Pope Francis displays a keen understanding of family life. With typical tenderness, and with great breadth and depth, he offers spiritual insights and practical pastoral approaches to encourage all in the Church who are called by God to the vocation of marriage and to form the families on which all of society depends.

"The pope has invited us to take the time to read ‘The Joy of Love’ patiently and carefully. I intend to do just that in the days ahead. I invite Catholics and others to do so as well, so that we might plan together for its practical applications to family life."
