Archbishop Lucas serves Thanksgiving meal to homeless

Homeless men, women and children living at the Stephen Center in Omaha had a special guest serve and spend time with them Thanksgiving Day – Archbishop George J. Lucas.

“The Stephen Center family is honored and blessed to have Archbishop Lucas back as a Thanksgiving Day guest,” said Del Bomberger, CEO of the south Omaha shelter.

The archbishop was there from about 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event took place at what has been a temporary location for the Stephen Center’s emergency shelter – the old St. Mary elementary school near 36th and Q streets.

The Stephen Center moved its shelter to the school in the summer of 2013 so it could build a new, $12 million facility at its 27th and Q streets location. The new facility is expected to open early next year.
