Bethlehem House to hold dinner, thrift store appreciation day

Bethlehem House, an Omaha home for pregnant women, has two events coming up to thank patrons and look to the future – a customer appreciation day at its thrift store for women and its fourth annual dinner and auction at Embassy Suites in La Vista.

The Oct. 8 gathering at the Humble Lily store at 2580 S. 90th St. in Omaha will include hot dogs, ice cream, cookies and lemonade, with prizes given away throughout the day, said Sue Ann Sellon, who runs the store.

The event is celebrating the one-year anniversary of the store, which sells gently used clothing and accessories such as dresses, slacks, blouses, jeans, jewelry, shoes and scarves. The day also will be spent thanking those who have made the store possible by purchasing and donating items, she said.

"We could not do this without our customers," Sellon said.

All proceeds from the Humble Lily go to Bethlehem House, which provides a home and education to at-risk pregnant women seeking skills to care for their children and live a healthy lifestyle.

And on Nov. 11, Bethlehem House will hold a 6 p.m. dinner and auction – an event attended by nearly 500 people last year, said Holly Sak, the home’s executive director and a member of St. Thomas More Parish in Omaha.

The "Doors to Our Future" gathering will include an update on Bethlehem House’s Aftercare program, which offers evening support sessions, avenues to education and employment, and other help for women after they leave Bethlehem House, she said.

The ministry also will honor Jim and Karla Franzluebbers of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Gretna and Dr. Tom and Rita Hejkal of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Omaha for their support of Bethlehem House, Sak said.

Ticket and other information about the evening is available at bethlehemhouseomaha.org, Sak said.

"It’s a great night to celebrate," she said.
