New member for Benedictines
Benedictine Brother Roger Mangels professed his final vows April 17 at Mount Michael Benedictine Abbey, formally entering the community of 22 other brothers and priests near Elkhorn.
Born in Independence, Mo., Brother Mangels, 55, has taught at Penn State in Pennsylvania and Avila University in Kansas City, Mo. An Eagle Scout, he also has served on the staff of the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation near Osceola, Mo.
Brother Mangels came to Mount Michael in 2012 and works with students at Mount Michael Benedictine School in drama, serves as sacristan, helps in the high school’s library and tends the prayer garden.
He professed his solemn vows just after the homily at Mass and after the celebration was welcomed by each member of the community.
