Sister Hayek was teacher at two Omaha schools

Notre Dame Sister Michelle Hayek, whose 67 years of religious life included teaching and leadership positions for her order in Omaha, died Dec. 7. She was 88.

Services were held Dec. 12 at Notre Dame Convent and a memorial Mass Dec. 14 at St. Wenceslaus Church, with interment at Calvary Cemetery, all in Omaha.

A native of Toledo, Iowa, Sister Hayek in Omaha taught social studies, was dean of women and principal at then-Notre Dame Academy from 1970 to 1974, and assistant principal at Roncalli Catholic High School from 1974 to 1978. She was provincial councilor from 1986 to 1989 and 1995 to 1998.

She also taught and was a principal at schools in Iowa and the Lincoln diocese, including the last 38 years at Bishop Neumann Catholic High School in Wahoo, Neb.
